Depending on who you talk to, El Porto is not, generally, a good wave. It’s pretty well known around L.A., in fact, that El Porto kind of sucks most of the time — unless it doesn’t. Some surfers love it, some hate it. The problem, though, is that when El Porto gets good… well, it gets really good. That means everyone who’s experienced good El Porto waits the rest of their life for it to turn on again. Which it will, but not often. Koa Rothman recently found himself in the middle of one of those rare times when El Porto was doing its thing. “It’s thing,” though, is not even comparable to the waves Koa generally surfs. “It’s not the best wave,” Koa said, “but it definitely has some size.
