The Inertia

When HT’s gets good, there aren’t too many waves on the planet that can match it. Also known as Lance’s Right or Hollow Trees, the wave was introduced to the wider surfing world when an Australian guy named Lance Knight set up shop on Sipora Island in the Mentawai archipelago in the ’90s. He picked Sipora because the wave out front was… well, it was pretty much as good as a wave can get.

Since then, it’s become one of the world’s most-famous lumps of water, and Koa Smith decided to get his feet wet and his head under the hood. HT’s at this size isn’t for everyone, but it sure is for Koa.
