One of the universal draws of professional surfing is watching a top-tier athlete surf your local, everyday spot. There are (usually) no barriers to access that keep a world-class surfer from sharing waves with the typical weekend warrior. And as we all say often and have heard plenty, seeing what one of the actual best in the world can do with the wave you surf every week can be an enlightening experience. It can be motivating.
Leo Fioravanti, Ryan Callinan, and Frederico Morais represent a handful of surfers currently sitting just below the CT’s 2022 cut line. They need results — solid ones — as the tour gears up for Bells, and all three are currently in Oz putting in some day-to-day work before the Australian leg. They made cameos at Callinan’s home break, Dixon Park, and put on a clinic in fairly average surf. Well, maybe not average surf but certainly not the kind of day to write home about. You can pretty much guarantee the rest of the lineup wasn’t making these waves look as rippable and fun as the CT trio does here.
