Lucas Fink Blows Minds With Latest Finless Ride at Jaws

The Inertia

Lucas Fink continues to put skimboards in places previously thought impossible. The Brazilian, four-time skimboard world champ just made his second trip to Hawaii and it didn’t take long for the world to hear about it.

A video filmed by Slater Neborsky was posted on Instagram and shows Fink getting towed into a bomb at Jaws on the island of Maui. Fink lets go of the rope, manages his speed on his finless skimboard, and barely dodges the crashing lip to tuck into the pocket full of spit. Once he regains his balance and completes the wave, he puts his hands on his head in disbelief.

And Fink wasn’t the only one who couldn’t believe it. He impressed an A-list group of surfers who were equally astonished in the comment section.

Italo Ferreira and Frederico Morais commented with “mind-blown” emojis. Kai Lenny and Justine Dupont gave it their stamp of approval calling it “insane.” Fellow big-wave skimboarder Brad Domke called it “heavy.”

Fink, who has made a name for himself riding the big waves of Nazaré, went on his first north Pacific big wave tour last winter where he skimboarded Jaws and Maverick’s for the first time. He said some rumors were going around the big wave community that Nazaré’s power might not stack up to the notorious waves of Jaws and Mavs, so he didn’t leave any ammunition for his doubters and surfed them both in the same swell.

With a pair of mega swells currently tracking toward California, might we see Fink make another appearance at the famed wave off Pillar Point? It’ll be interesting to see if he repeats his big wave tour from last year and continues to up the ante with rides like the one he just got at Jaws.
