Most know Brazilian skimboarder Lucas Fink for his daredevil, finless descents of some of the biggest waves in the world. But Fink cut his teeth riding shorebreak, and after a recent win in his native Brazil, he continues to show how multifaceted he is in the ocean.
Fink won the second stop of the United Skim Tour at Praia da Sununga, Brazil – one of the world’s most famous skimboard wedge spots. A four-time skimboarding world champ, Fink has now won the first two events of the six-stop tour after he also took the win at the opening event of the year in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico in April. He’s jumped out to an early lead to try and grab a fifth title.
In a packed beach that Fink called the “Maracanã” of skimboarding – a reference to the famous soccer stadium in Rio de Janeiro – he defeated the local rider Daniel Azevedo. Fink’s total of 26.20 points, which was the highest of the entire event, bested Azevedo’s 20.30 points. (In skimboarding, the top three waves count for a rider’s total.) Fink was propelled by a near-perfect 9.77-point ride in the final after sticking a 360 shuv-it on his way out to a big-shorebreak wrap where he successfully came out of the barrel before sliding onto the sand.

“It was better than my dreams,” Fink wrote on Instagram of his win. “One of the most special contests of my career!”
Praia da Sununga, located just a stone’s throw south of Ubatuba, the hometown of Filipe Toledo, is a world-renowned skimboard destination. The beach features a large granite slab that creates a perfect wedge for skimboarders to ride (and surfers, too, when the swell is big enough). The beach last hosted a world tour event in 2017.
Notably, three-time world champ Blair Conklin flew down to Brazil to skim in the contest and match up against Fink. However, Conklin was surprisingly eliminated early in a second-round upset.
The women’s side of the event was won by Sununga local Julia Dias.
The remaining four events of the 2025 tour will take place in the U.S. – North Carolina, Delaware, and California (x2) – to determine the 2025 titles.
