Waterman is a term that’s used far too frequently. Somehow it became attached to paddleboarders. It became attached to any surfer who owned a mask and snorkel. Then, somewhere along the way, it became a term that no one really took all that seriously–especially if one referred to himself as a waterman. But Mark Healey is a waterman, though and through.
He knows the ocean, he knows its creatures, and his life revolves around it. It feeds him, it teaches him about himself, and it’s probably the most important thing in his life. Surfing is about more than sliding on waves, after all, and no one knows that better than Healey.
