Mason Ho likes his waves like he likes his drinks: on the rocks. The problem with a lot of good waves is that they work well because they break over something shallow. As Chandler explained in the cult classic North Shore, “a wave breaks in water that’s half as deep as the wave is tall.” While that’s not completely true, it does have an element of truth to it. And Mason Ho knows that well.
He’s no stranger to surfing waves that are sucking dry. No stranger to the rock dance. No stranger to the art of the reef dodge, and no stranger to the skin-shredding punishment that lies beneath the surface. But when a good wave is breaking, there’s a good chance that Mason Ho will give it a shot, whether there are boulders sticking out of its face or not.
In the video you see here, Mason is joined by longtime friend Sheldon Paishon and Now Deane, both of whom are about as acquainted with shallow waves as Mason is. The juice, for them at least, is worth the squeeze.
