Last year at Maverick’s was nothing short of insane. The “Day of Days,” Pete Mel’s barrel of a lifetime, and so much more. This year was calmer by most standards, so when a swell capable of pushing things into the 50-foot range showed itself on the forecasts, the Maverick’s big-wave community was ready and stoked. It wasn’t the crystal-clean waves that you might get in the middle of winter, rather it was the choppy variety that California is plagued with in spring.
But big waves are big waves, and these ones provided plenty of action, as seen through the lens of Powerline Productions. Click play above for huge waves, wipeouts, and a bit of parking lot debrief after perhaps the biggest wave of the season took out the entire lineup.
