Well, it’s that time of year again: Maverick’s season. Maverick’s with an apostrophe because it’s named after a dog named Maverick and it’s a possessive. Maverick’s with the biggest, heaviest wave on the California coast. Maverick’s with the wave of Pete Mel’s life. Whether you prefer Maverick’s or Mavericks, it’s that time of year again.
On November 6, Maverick’s surfers were ready. A long period west swell was rolling in, the winds were light, and the tide was rising. It was a good way to start the season off, and for a few hours, it was just about as good as it gets. The fog burned off as the day rolled on, and the waves just kept on coming. It wasn’t the most perfect day at Maverick’s but it bodes well for the season, doesn’t it?
