Wave pools have really blown up in the last decade or so. Way back in 2011, before wave pools were popping up all over the world and actually creating ridiculously long barrels, Wavegarden founder Josema Odriozola explained a few things to us. He knew what was coming, but the surfing public didn’t have any idea just how big wave pools would turn out to be.
They’ve been around for a long time now, but only in the last few years have they really turned into a viable replacement for the ocean. “Replacement” is a word that might cause a few to grit their teeth, so Red Bull got on the horn with Jamie O’Brien and Mick Fanning to get their thoughts.
