We’d be lying if we said we aren’t a little frustrated The Eddie hasn’t yet been given the green light this winter. There have been a few swells (particularly this one) that had us convinced we were going to wake up to that news we’ve all been waiting for. Unfortunately, it’s not happening this week, but we must remind ourselves that The Eddie is arguably the most prestigious event in surfing, and to do it half-ass would be a foolish, dishonorable decision. Back to the waiting game we must go.
While it doesn’t look like we’ll be watching any competition this week, we’ll most definitely be seeing a few people throw themselves over the edges of massive liquid skyscrapers. And with giant waves comes horrific wipeouts. Just ask Hawaii’s Tom Dosland. Tom may have already earned himself the wipeout of the year for his efforts at Jaws yesterday. While we patiently wait for El Niño to produce the next Eddie-worthy swell, let’s have a look at a few insane waves that were had last night.
