The Inertia

When a big south swell makes its way up the Pacific, there are a few spots that big wave surfers keep a keen eye on. One of them is Puerto Escondido, and when Nate Florence saw the forecasts, he booked his trip without batting an eye.

It’s a place he’s been a million times before, and as an aside, it was recently designated as a World Surfing Reserve. It seems just about perfect for the kind of surfing Nate likes — which is to say it’s a difficult place to surf, both physically and mentally. The waves, of course, are some of the best in the world for those who enjoy surfing tubes of immense proportions, but it’s a place that requires knowledge only gained by experience. And Nate’s got experience.

All that experience pays off in spades when Puerto goes off, and Nate reaped the rewards of his hard work.
