When you surf for a living (or even just surf a lot, for that matter), you’re aware of what different swell directions will do to different waves in your area. Nathan Florence certainly does surf a lot, and as such, he knows when a weird north swell is heading towards Maui, some interesting waves might start working. And recently, he threw the dice and took a gamble. He boarded a plane to Maui from Oahu, crossed his fingers, and… well, the gamble paid off. Big time.
