The Inertia

Kael Walsh is 18-years-old. He’s from Yallingup, which is in Western Australia. You know what that means? He’s weirdly good at surfing big, heavy waves. He joins the ranks of people like Jack Robinson, who, although he hasn’t exactly performed on the tour, made the world sit up and take notice when they were still in their teen years.

Zond, which is the edit you see above, features Walsh doing things on a surfboard that he’s too young to do in Sumatra and Hawaii. His time in Hawaii was especially rewarding. “I got to surf in the Backdoor shootout and that was sick,” he said. “I also spent a lot of time with Reef McIntosh. He taught me a few things and took me to an Outer Reef.”

He’s got big plans, too, a la Mikey Wright. Surf hard, go big, and drop clips. Make the world know his name, then have a crack at contest surfing. And whatever path he chooses, we’re excited to see what happens.
