The Inertia

Everyone’s been waiting for Owen Wright’s comeback. Since his head injury took him out of contention back in December of 2015, rumors swirled about his future as a professional surfer. Wright was tight-lipped about most of it, preferring to concentrate on his recovery out of the limelight.

But a few days ago, it was revealed that doctors gave him the go-ahead to compete in the Maitland and Port Stephens Toyota Pro, a QS 6000 event. To go along with it, the WSL offered him a wildcard for 2017. While it’s still not a sure thing he’ll accept it, Owen’s fans are bubbling about the prospect.

The Maitland and Port Stephens Toyota Pro kicked off in lack-luster waves, Wright is set to make his debut in the 13th heat of the second round. He’ll be competing against Nathan Yeomans, Luel Filipe, and Alan Donato.
