The flourishing Canadian surf scene gets little play down south or down under. Not because Canada doesn’t hold – Vancouver Island’s numbered nooks and crannies and unadulterated North Pacific energy make for a perfect combination, in theory. But, mostly out of ignorance and a collective aversion to cold water down south.
As in Game of Thrones, though, Northerners are hardier than their southern neighbors. And no Canadian surfer embodies that truth more than Pete Devries.
The man knows the reefs, points, and beach breaks of his native Vancouver Island like the back of his hand – like Jon Snow, he’s the veritable King in the North. And we know nothing, Jon Snow.
