Of all the events on the North Shore, the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout is generally one of the best. Held in early January, the crowds from the Triple Crown have left the beach and the waves are generally firing. Such is the case this year—Pipeline has been absolutely all-time for much of the waiting period. There have been many waves that stand out, but one stands out above the rest: Japan’s Keito Matsuoka dropped into a Pipe bomb that was seemingly unmakeable… but he made it. He netted himself a perfect score of 12 points—the Shootout is a little different than other contests—and a memory that will last a lifetime.
