Late April is not generally thought of as the best month for Pipeline. Every now and then, a sneaky late-season swell will barge its way onto that fabled chunk of reef, but it’s few and far between. When it happens, though, it’s a real boon for North Shore surfers. The madness of December and January with all the contests and traveling surfers are in the rearview, so the crowds have significantly dipped. The sun stays up for just a little longer, so those sunset sessions can last later into the evening.
Recently, one of those sneaky swells hit Pipe, producing solid waves. And Koa Rothman was there to get in what might be the last real Pipe waves of the year. In the process of doing so, he managed to snag a few really good waves and wrangle one hell of a drop, which can be seen at the 5:40 mark in the video above.
