Hurricane Genevieve officially became the season’s first Category 5 hurricane on Friday, and it is pushing some serious waves into California’s coastline. And when serious waves are heading in that direction, the Wedge is one of the most entertaining places to be. Brent Weldon knows that very well, so he made sure he was there with his camera in hand to document the action.
“Huge waves generated by Hurricane Genevieve hit the Wedge with relentless force!” he wrote. “In this video, watch as massive swell rolls in with the high tide, sending giant whitewash crashing right over the jetty. It was a wild, windy day with incredibly challenging conditions, but local bodyboarders and surfers still took on the chaos — charging heavy drops and scoring massive waves…From crazy wipeouts to epic rides in howling winds, this session at the Wedge was pure intensity!”
