The Inertia


Los Angeles-based surfers Cody Tesnow, Dave Mullen,  and friends had set plans for an all-day sail and surf drop-in at Little Dume. There were no waves that day so instead of giving up and drinking at Hinano, they decided to apply their skills (Cody is a director and owns an ad agency, Dave a director of photography who has worked for Nat Geo and shot a lot of surf footage) on spoofing the Deep Blue Ralph Lauren commercial.

There was apparently tequila involved but they shot and edited this while underway (literally all done in one day, including the overwrought color correct) as a lark. Cody takes the place of Medina (or maybe two places, he’s a self-professed “Fat Boy Surfer”), and Dave Mullen does all the film work but also was shooting with a bottle of tequila instead of pro gear in a water housing. It’s at least a little more relatable than the original, and it’s definitely funnier.
