The Inertia

December 20th was one of those days at Maverick’s that won’t be forgotten for a long, long time. Nearly everyone in the water that day pushed the limits of what’s possible in the conditions. And Shawn Dollar, one of the greatest big wave surfers in the world, was there like he always is when Maverick’s wakes up.

In 2010, on the tail end of the tow-surfing movement, Dollar stroked into what was, at the time, the biggest wave ever. His 55-foot wave at Maverick’s cemented him as one of the greatest big wave surfers ever. And now, as people continue to find bigger and bigger waves, Shawn gives his thoughts on the younger generation, the ones that looked up to him.
