The Inertia

Tomo is a bit of a mad scientist when it comes to making surfboards. Many of his shapes are radically different than the norm, but they’ve got science behind them. A few years ago, he dropped the Hydronaut on the world, which was his first real step up design. Now, in the same vein, he’s just released the Hydroshort, an evolution of the Hydronaut directed at the three to five-foot range and up to six feet.

“The Hydroshort is a continuation of the Hydronaut – a board designed for powerful waves, tube riding and such,” Tomo explained. “So the Hydroshort was a natural progression to be a more all-around design both for smaller waves and everyday kind of conditions.”

And while it might be designed for everyday kind of conditions, Timmy Reyes took it for a test drive in June in absolutely all-time conditions at a fickle righthander. Turns out it works really well there, too, and Timmy’s not going to forget this session for the rest of his life.
