The Inertia

Tom Carroll is just like you and me. At least when it comes to that Christmas morning feeling that comes with getting a new quiver, that is. Tom Carroll is not just like you and me when it comes to surfing, because Tom Carroll is a living legend. But still, it’s nice to see that someone who has been getting new quivers for many, many years can still froth like a grom.

Carroll, owner of two world titles, a trio of Pipe Masters wins, and 26 career event wins, has been around the block. Although he officially retired in 1993, he didn’t retire retire. He just retired from the tour, but kept right on surfing at the level a two-time world champion surfs. As time went on, the cement of his living legend status hardened. It’s been great to watch, hasn’t it?

Here, he breaks down his Indo quiver of sought-after Christenson Surfboards. They’re tuned not only for him, but for the variety of waves one finds in Indo. Straight up performers, twin fins, step-ups — they’re all in there. For those interested, the boards he walks us through here are a 6’4″ Osprey, a Water Lion of the same length, a 5’11” OP4, a 5’5″ Cafe Racer, and a tiny little Acid Phish that measures in at a measly 5’3″.

Certainly runs the gamut, doesn’t it?
