Uluwatu surfing

Ain’t it a great feeling to lean into a bottom turn and look down the line to see just how much fun you’re about to have? Photo: YouTube//Screenshot

The Inertia

Uluwatu is a fantastic wave. You know that, even if you haven’t had the pleasure of surfing it. For the last couple of weeks, it’s been inundated with swells. And on June 4, it lit up once again.

The swell was big enough for the Outside Corner, as it’s known, to work. According to Surf Raw Files, the direction was south/southwest, with a period of 16 seconds. That led to waves in the 8-10 foot range.

It was the fourth decent swell in a span of two weeks, but as per usual on the Bukit, the early birds didn’t get the worm. The tide was a bit too high and the morning sickness was in full effect until about 11 a.m.

“The offshore kicked in and the faces turned clean,” Surf Raw Files wrote. “Then the magic happened!”
