Every now and then, we all do something stupid. This boat operator, though… man, he did something REALLY stupid. While it’s still not exactly clear just what he was thinking, it is clear that he ended up capsizing his vessel with his two boys in it. The whole thing happened in Ventura, where the dad and his kids were lucky that a surfer happened to be nearby. It’s likely that he entered the harbor in the wrong place by accident and found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“Everything flew off… it was pretty scary,” said Eithan Osborne, a surfer who came to the rescue along with fellow surfer Micky Clarke. “The dad and one kid kind of came up quick, and then the second kid didn’t. I pushed the boat down so the side would come up, and he came out.”

Eithan then proceeded to get the child onto his surfboard and paddle to shore with him, while Clarke took the other boy to the beach. “He was holding onto my leash even when I was on the shore,” Micky remembered. “Ankle deep water, and he was still gripped onto my leash.” Micky reassured the boy that they had made it to shore, and the child had only one thing to say. “Thank you,” he said. Meanwhile, the father sat on top of the boat and watched. Chris Papaleo happened to be on hand to film the whole thing, and the incident is under investigation.
