The Inertia

Competitive surfing is back and the Championship Tour has come to Newcastle. The proof is in the edit above as a slew of CT warriors hit the surf at Merewether following a three-month layoff and two-week quarantine. Most seemed to be working to figure out the intricacies of the Tour’s latest addition.

As you might recall, the World Surf League added two events to the Australian leg of the tour after the Sunset (HI) and Santa Cruz events had to be postponed and the iconic Bells and Gold Coast events were cancelled due to the pandemic. Australia now includes Newcastle, Narrabeen, Margaret River, and Rottnest (which should be extremely interesting as a first-time host).

The entire tour seemingly took a dip including Carissa Moore, Tatiana Weston-Webb, Ryan Callinan, Owen and Tyler Wright, and more. Pardon the music and the tight crop, but the clips certainly get the point across: CT athletes are frothing to get back to business.

The Newcastle Cup is scheduled to run April 1-11. Stay tuned to WorldSurfLeague.com for more.
