The Inertia

Barron Mamiya is a certified Pipe Master. At the Pipe Pro last weekend, not only did he win the inaugural competition of the 2024 CT season, he did it with a 10-point ride.

The moment came in the final heat against John John Florence and started with a takeoff so deep, Mamiya recounted later that he almost bailed on the wave. Lucky for him, and us, he stuck it out, eventually getting spat out of the barrel and into the pages of history. It was a moment that you sort of have to see to believe.

So, what do you do after a performance like that? Party your face off, I suppose. Barron just posted a video to his YouTube channel with an edit that cuts together the finest rides of his Pipe Pro run, along with all the behind the scenes moments before and after.

If anything has come out of the 2024 Pipe Pro, it’s a reminder that the surfers on the CT are, in fact, human. This year’s winners have proven that they don’t have to be just contest robots or PR mouthpieces to succeed. Moments like Caity Simmers delivering a decidedly unfiltered post-heat interview and Barron posting an edit of his sweaty post-victory rager are exactly what we needed.

Party on, Barron. You earned it.
