Ever since Volcom put down a handsome reward of $10,000 for the first person to land a kickflip on a surfboard, Zoltan dedicated his life to landing one. And he did. It just wasn’t in accordance to rule number three Volcom set forth for the contest. “Zoltan’s kickflip is clearly below the lip and not a real air,” Volcom said in a press release. “Zoltan has pulled the first kickflip on a surfboard, but the $10,000 still remains up for grabs.”
Following the questionable ruling, Zoltan and his entourage stormed the Volcom HQ with pitchforks and torches, demanding a reconsideration. Well, not exactly. Volcom just got an earful from all corners of the interwebs. Long story short, Volcom coughed up the 10 gs. Pretty cool of them considering “Zoltan’s kickflip is clearly below the lip and not a real air.” They even turned around and said they’d up the ante and award $20,000 to the first person to do an off-the-lip kick flip in summer of 2013.
While we’ve heard directly from the Volcom team that the official contest is over and the $20k is no longer up for grabs, Zoltan, being the persistent fellow that he is, is still looking to land the kickflip above the lip. This trick has become his white whale, so, Zoltan, if you’re out there, be aware that the contest is over and there’s no pot of cash on the other side of that kickflip. We heard it straight from the horse’s mouth. BUT…If the $20k were still up for grabs, would this this one take the prize? Or is it the same chop hop flip he’s been doing since 2007? Filmer Skimshady seems to think it’s “above the lip.”
