The Inertia

If you’ve yet to hear the name Caity Simmers, now is the chance to familiarize yourself. Despite being barely old enough to drive, the California native’s surfing resume is already incredibly stacked.

In 2016, Simmers won the ISA U-16 girls World Junior Championship, was named rookie of the year by the National Scholastic Surfing Association, and scored three perfect 10s at the NSSA nationals. In 2019, Simmers began competing on the WSL Junior Pro series and in 2020, she won the Super Girl Pro. In 2021, at age 15, Simmers won the U.S. Open of Surfing, making her the second youngest winner in the history of the event.

Now, at 16, Simmers is competing full time on the Challenger Series, looking to secure a spot on the 2023 Championship Tour (after turning down her spot in 2022). And she’s pretty much nailing it. Again. Currently, Simmers is ranked number one. This week, she’s looking to defend her U.S. Open title.

If you’re still not convinced that Simmers is worth her salt, take a look at the above video. Caity Simmers, remember that name.
