The Inertia

What if Johnny Depp had been cast as Johnny Utah instead of Keanu Reeves? Hell, what if anybody but Patrick Swayze had portrayed Bodhi?

Every film that’s ever been made is filled with a ton of ‘what ifs’ so naturally, it’s tough to imagine an iconic one like Point Break in any way other than how it finally appeared on screen. And that’s one of the fascinating things about filmmaking in the first place. There are a million different moving parts that make up the Hollywood film industry, justifying why it takes years for anything to go from writing a first draft script to an opening weekend in theaters. A-list actors’ schedules have to be accommodated, directors get shuffled, scripts are stored up on a shelf, money is spent in massive heaps, that script gets its eighth rewrite, and then, if everybody’s lucky and all the right pieces finally come together, a camera might actually be turned on to start making a film.

I’m not going to spoil this for you. If you’re a film buff in general or just love Point Break what it is, here’s a handful of solid nuggets to add to your trivia résumé.
