boat getting swamped

Luckily, the boat’s pilot appeared to come away unscathed, but he was probably very annoyed. Photo: YouTube//Screenshot

The Inertia

With any luck, you’ve been to Indonesia. If you have, and you’ve been there on a surf trip, it’s more than likely that you’ve taken a boat somewhere. And with any luck, that boat arrived safely at its destination, unlike the one you see here.

Although the video’s description doesn’t have much information, it does say that the boat ran into trouble at Puger Beach, a beautiful stretch of sand about 20 miles away from Jember, a city on East Java.

Puger is a bit of a tourist hotspot, where sunburnt travelers with exhaust burns on their calves (if you know, you know) can buy fresh fish or go fishing on a little boat. Ideally, that little boat will make it past the waves — and most of them certainly do — but not all of them can. Remember that boat at Nias in 2018? Hard to forget that one.

While it appears that this boat’s captain came away unscathed, hopefully his boat was salvageable, because it’s likely it was a necessary part of his livelihood.
