The Inertia

Australia is pretty well known as a place with crazy wildlife. Spiders the size of dinner plates. Flightless dinosaur-birds that’ll kill you. Dingos eating babies and sharks in every inch of the ocean. It’s not all true, of course, but the reputation is there. In a recent video shot just north of Eurong, a tiny speck of a place in the Fraser Coast Region of Queensland, Australia.

According to reports, a fisherman was fishing from the sand when he caught a shark. It’s likely to be a juvenile whaler shark, and he tried to release it twice before the dingo arrived on the scene. As the shark was trying to head back out to sea after its little scuffle with a hook, the dingo saw its opportunity and swept in.

Dingos aren’t particularly picky eaters — fish, crabs, insects, fruit, and eggs are all on the menu, as well as carcasses — so it’s not surprising that the wild dog would be interested.
