Hailing from Los Angeles, Ca, Alex Gray is a man of many talents. He’s a world traveler. He bow hunts wild boar. He has the incorrigible giggle of a grom. And on top of his multifaceted skill set, he’s really, REALLY good at getting barreled.
In Mr. Gray’s latest display of tube-riding, he pulls off something very rarely (if not never) seen before. It’s a mid-barrel GoPro hand-off. As Alex cruises through a tube at an undisclosed location in Southeast Asia, he passes Mike Nulty swimming with the GoPro, grabs the camera, continues to get slotted, and ultimately gets spit out in a mist of glory. The clip garnered the most votes (by a landslide) for September’s GoPro of the World contest and won Alex a GoPro Hero 4, $1k, and a Surfline VIP subscription (not that he needed it).
Turns out Alex is no stranger to this competition. He won the August round of the contest too with a similar tube at the same Southeast Asia spot. The GoPro of the World contest runs till October 31st, when one single clip will win the overall honors – and $20,000. With two clips already taking the monthly top spot, Alex’s chances look pretty good.
