Surfboard design is a wonderful thing. It’s hit and miss, just like anything else. It takes a thorough understanding of hydrodynamics, waves, displacement, and surfing in general. For many shapers, every board is a labor of love–but sometimes, they just don’t work very well.
Neal Purchase Jr. recently spent a few months in Canggu, Bali, where he channeled his inner mad scientist. The clip above, shot in early June at Uluwatu and Pererenan Beach, explains “in short detail the creation and development of the duo surfboards he’s been experimenting with and riding during the past 8 months.”
