In ten years, guys will be paddling into 100 foot faces. Like the one G-Mac towed into at Nazaré a few years back. The level of sheer insanity, matched by which the limits are constantly pushed, equals a huge uptick in progression.
And one of the sites where all this futuristic tackling of liquid monsters will go down will undoubtedly be Nazaré in Portugal. Sure, the paddle sessions at Jaws and Waimea Bay have been unreal, groundbreaking if you will. But there’s something about Nazaré that just screams huge potential for greatness, especially once the best in the world begin to explore the paddle-in possibilities more and more. Take the above edit from the recent flurry of swell over at Europe’s premiere big wave spot. Guys like G-Mac, Joao de Macedo, Nic Lamb, Tom Lowe, and Jamie Mitchell (you’ll remember those last two as the ones who played chicken via surfboard and jetski). Amidst the victorious rides, there are a few nasty spills. But hey, that’s how you get better, right?
