There is wisdom in the simple dedication to “do one thing at a time.” When applied to surfboards, well, that can be challenging because there’s another adage that rings so very true: variety is the spice of life. It’s tough not to indulge in taste testing all shapes and sizes of surfcraft if you have them readily available. And honestly, who wouldn’t want the luxury of picking their board of the day before every surf, finding new excitement and joy in riding waves with each little quirk in that unique piece of foam?
But boy oh boy can you master something if you stick to it. And therein lies the beauty of finding one board you like and exploring every corner of your ability in some kind of thruster-monogamy.
Admittedly, the video above is a longform promotion for Pat Gudauskas’ signature board. But Gudauskas hints at some nuggets of wisdom in the process of finding what he likes (loves) in a surfboard, and in ways, getting a little closer to maximizing his own potential with it. Needless to say, this is Gudauskas’ favorite surfboard, one he considers his one-stop-shop craft. And yeah, it reinforces that whole “do one thing at a time” philosophy.
