The Inertia

Kanoa Igarashi currently sits fifth on the WSL Jeep Leaderboard. That means he has a decent shot at giving Japan its first CT world title the year before surfing makes its Olympic debut there. And as you’re likely also aware, Igarashi is currently competing down in Huntington Beach at the 2019 Vans U.S. Open – an event that has no bearing on the Olympics or the world title, but if he wins again this year he’ll be the first surfer to ever three-peat at the event. It goes without saying Igarashi is on a hot streak and since Bali, he’s had the frosted tips to match.

Here, we get a look behind the scenes of how the 21-year-old spends his lay days and his laser-focus when he throws on a contest singlet.
