It’s pretty hard to fault the surfing of Mikey February. It’s a perfect mix of throwback soul and new-school shredding. Whether he’s on a twin, a thruster, or even a single fin, February makes surfing look as fun as it feels. In the second installment of Vans’ Sonic Souvenirs, he was joined by equally stylish surfers LeeAnn Curren and Alex Knost on a trip to the Ivory Coast.
“Through their travels,” the Vans team wrote, “they are embedded in the origins of many regions’ cultures, spotlighting a variety of musical styles, instruments, dance, and deep-rooted traditions around creative expression. Nestled in smaller, niche communities, like the Hibiscus Coast, each region has its own ideas and interpretation of surfing, independent of existing perceptions or definitions.”
