The Gold Coast is a good place to be a surfer if you like good waves. It’s not great if you’re a surfer who doesn’t like crowds, though, because there are so many surfers who like good waves. It’s not called the Superbank for nothing, and when it fires up, that bank certainly is super.
Around 7,000 people live in Coolangatta, but it has produced a very high percentage of championship surfers. Parko, Taj, Rabbit, Jack Freestone, Michael Peterson, and Peter Townend, just to name a few.
It’s winter in the Southern Hemisphere, and that means consistent waves. That consistency showed itself recently for a good couple of days, one of which can be seen in the video you see here from Raw Surfing.
