A flash flood hit the beach, and I debated whether filming was the right call. I wasn’t going to chance getting my normal camera equipment wet, so I decided to film with my iPhone 16 Pro, Insta360 X4 and two 10-foot poles. I was trying to get the drone shot without using a drone, ha!
It was an adventure. I got soaked. And Kei Kobayashi actually scored some fun waves.
There are a lot of theories about surfing after a hard rain in Southern California. Most of them point to the fact that you shouldn’t. But if the waves are good, and the lineup is absolutely empty, would you surf in rain like this? It would be hard not to.
