Watching someone who is really good on a foil can be deceiving. When under the feet of the right person, foiling in good waves looks easy. Smooth. Flowy. Everything you want to feel on a surfboard. But in reality, foiling is hard. It takes someone like Adam Bennetts to make it look easy.

In the video you see here, Bennetts couldn’t wipe the smile off his face after the session. It was a little point break, basically empty, and to Bennetts, it was just about perfect. Foils, in the wrong hands at least, can be frowned upon in crowded lineups. Bennetts, who is good enough at it to assuage any worries anyone might have, is aware.

“I generally try and find waves where there is no one out because it just gives you so much room to move and properly have a crack at surfing the waves like you would on a surfboard,” Bennetts told The Inertia. “One day, I would love to have access to some iconic waves with no one out to try and see what’s possible on the foil — waves like Bells, J-Bay, and even Snapper.”

But since he’s not foiling Snapper on the regular, he’s always on the lookout for waves like the one in this clip.

“It was like mini Snapper Rocks,” Bennetts wrote, “but with no one out!”
