Surfers across the Pacific are feeling the strain in their shoulders and backs after three days and counting of south swell galore. From Chile to El Salvador, Mexico to California, one of the biggest swells in recent memory has filtered across the world’s largest ocean, sending surfers scrambling for waves.
The surfers on Oahu got in on the action, too. North Shore local Mason Ho drove to the south side of the island to take a break from surfing weird waves and search for tubes at Ala Moana Bowls. He caught up with his father, Michael, and fellow pro Parker Coffin, trading off left-hand tubes.
Given how many barrels Ho made in this video, it’s hard to imagine that he left many for the rest of the surfers in the lineup. He made the slabby, shallow cylinders look easy, switching between front hand and back hand on the rail, and laying back in the tube.
Surfers in the Pacific will get a quick breather this weekend before another round of impressive south swell hits next week, turning all the summertime spots back on. Don’t be surprised to see Mason on Oahu’s south shore again soon.
