There are a few surfers who’ve attained living legend status, and Mick Fanning is definitely one of them. That’s for good reason, too. No, not the fact that he was attacked by a shark while the world watched, although that certainly didn’t hurt. It’s for the simple fact that Mick Fanning is on a different level when he rides a wave.
Although he’s retired from competing on the tour now, he’s not done surfing. And judging from the talent he exhibited in a semi-recent Snapper Rocks session, he’s gotten even better. At 45, that might seem strange, but his connection with Snapper is as undeniable as his talent. It’s an interesting mix of raw ability that’s been honed to perfection. Powerful, fast, and agile, Fanning surfs the way most people mind-surf.
“A great Mick Fanning surfing highlights pack from a classic session at Snapper Rocks a while ago,” DHD Surfboards wrote. “Watch three-time World Champion Mick Fanning demonstrate why his rail game, lightning-fast speed, and power turns still set the global benchmark for high-performance surfing.”
