Puerto Escondido gets big. Really big. But this month has been a little bigger for a little longer than usual, thanks to a series of huge south swells that lit up just about everywhere south swells can light up. And when Zicatela gets big, Quetzal Estrada is out there.
“You know it’s going to be big when Greg Long shows up,” Estrada says at the beginning of the recap you see here. And he’s right. When Greg Long is interested, it’s likely going to be pretty out-of-hand. Long wasn’t the only one who showed up, either. Tom Lowe was there to test his limits. Nate Florence, too, as well as the hard-charging local crew.
“The first two weeks of the month turned into a full-on swell bender at Zicatela,” Estrada wrote on YouTube, “with three consecutive swells lighting up the sandbars and producing some of the biggest and best waves of the year so far. Puerto was firing nonstop — heavy barrels, big wipeouts, perfect conditions, and that classic Mexican Pipeline energy.”
