When it comes to slabs, there aren’t too many like Teahupo’o. When it comes to slab surfers, there aren’t too many like John John and Nathan Florence. And on September 16, the wave, the swell, and the surfers all came together.
John, who is in the middle of an epic sailing adventure with his family, was in Tahiti. The place must feel like a second home to him by now, and Nate took a look at the forecast and booked a same-day flight from his home on the North Shore to the End of Road.
It turned out to be a good idea. The swell arrived and was better than they expected. What went down was a paddle session for the ages, featuring the Florence brothers and a pack of wildly talented barrel hunters.
