The Inertia

Bethany Hamilton has to be one of the most well-known surfers on Earth. She’s built a laundry list of titles over the years – pro surfer, shark attack survivor, author, producer, actress, mother. And she’s inspired thousands if not millions of people struggling to overcome adversity with her personal story.

Apparently, Tige Boats is well aware of Hamilton’s level of influence and recently brought her on as the newest addition to the Tige Boats team under the pro wakesurf umbrella.

“Tige Boats is excited to welcome the inspirational Bethany Hamilton to the Tige family!” said the brand in a press release. “Known as one of the world’s most brave women, and a world-ranked surfer, Hamilton will now be adding the Tige wave to her surfing.”

While the surf world remains obsessed with the progress of pioneering wave pools (both hopeful and critical of their proliferation), wakesurfing has quietly become incredibly popular in the last decade. Tige has apparently noticed.

Hamilton isn’t the first World Tour surfer to join the Tige team either. Back in 2013, Josh Kerr became a part of the wakesurfing program. It makes sense. Wakesurfing is a good way to stay loose on lay days. That is if you have access to a boat.

“Surfing is my passion, so taking it behind a boat is going to be a fun adventure,” said Hamilton. “I’m excited to be a part of the Tige family and represent the brand!”
