Way back in 2012, Jones Snowboards did something smart: they entered a design partnership with Chris Christenson. Christenson, as you know, is one of the world’s most sought after surfboard shapers, but he’s a lifelong snowboarder, as well. Now, Christenson and Jones have designed a line of snowboards called the Surf Series. As the name implies, they focus heavily on the glide.

“Every model is a unique shape that rides differently,” Jones explained, “yet they all offer effortless glide and fluid turn performance thanks to rocker profiles and 3D contour bases inspired by Christenson’s fastest-gliding surfboard shapes.”

When Christenson and Jones first paired up, they came out with the original Mountain Surfer.

“This all started when I met Jeremy Jones about five years ago,” Christenson wrote for The Inertia. “He found out that I was a surfboard shaper and he immediately expressed interest in the process — and he also knew that I was super into snowboarding. He was like, ‘I’ve always wanted to connect with a surfboard shaper that is serious about snowboarding and understands it.’ And I was. Actually, I was addicted. So we kind of took it from there.”

Christenson thinks that riding deep powder is cousin to surfing. The feelings are similar, and Christenson was inspired by what Jeremy Jones was doing in the backcountry, especially the way he rode powder.

“Riding powder and surfing are probably the two things even closer or more similar to each other than skating,” Christenson said.

To create the Surf Series, Christenson took design elements from some of his surfboards, made hand-shaped prototypes from thin pieces of wood, then shaped the outline and the rocker profiles using the same tools he uses to shape his surfboards. The result is a line of snowboards that, while all different from each other, have the same basic goal: to give the rider that flowy feeling unique to riding a wave.

This year, there are a few new additions to the lineup. First, the Twincraft, a snowboard that’s a little more suited for all-around riding.

“Park to pow and everything in between. The Twincraft is one of those boards you can’t go wrong on,” said Jimmy Goodman, Jones Pro Team rider and all-mountain master. “Freestyle feel with a surfy heart!”

The Mind Expander has been revamped for 2027, as well. It’s become a bit of a cult-classic, with a blend of freeriding, freestyle, and surf style all mashed up. The Mind Expander 2.0 has a brand new shape, profile and sidecut.

Next in the family is the Storm Chaser, a snowboard built for the deepest days. “The compact, high-volume powder craft effortlessly floats in deep, low-angle terrain and still rails turns on hardpack during low tides. Inspired by surfing’s classic fish outline,” Jones Snowboards explained, “the stubby shape and nimble swallowtail are made to surf the deepest days of winter.”

Then there’s the Storm Wolf, which leans towards a certain type of rider: one who loves massive, fast turns and deep powder. It’s a swallowtail that generates a whole lot of fluidity when hitting wind lips or on-rail “bottom turns.”

And finally, in perhaps the surfiest model, the Mountain Surfer. It’s a bindingless pow-surfer that offers the rider an entirely different feeling than anything else.

“Since starting the Surf Series,” Jones said, “the goal has been to try and bring that feeling from the water to the snow. Always evolving, always finessing, always optimizing around the glide.”
