Tatiana West-Webb is going to have a world champ in her corner. She recently took to Instagram to announce that she’s enlisting the services of 2015 tour champion Adriano de Souza to be her coach starting with the 2025 season.
“I’m very happy to announce my new coach,” Weston-Webb wrote in the caption of a photo with de Souza. “It’s going to be an incredible year.”
De Souza commented, “Let’s go. It’s a huge pleasure to be part of this.”
The news comes after an earlier announcement that Weston-Webb was parting ways with her former coach, Ross Williams, who she had worked with since 2021. Williams decided to prioritize spending more time at home in Hawaii with his family instead of traveling with championship tour surfers, ending his travel coaching arrangements with Weston-Webb, John John Florence, and Bettylou Sakura-Johnson.
De Souza retired from professional surfing in 2021 and was quick to get involved in the coaching world. In 2022, Italy’s national surfing team hired de Souza to coach and mentor its surfers at international events. Most recently, in 2024 de Souza traveled with the national team to the ISA World Surfing Games Olympic qualifier in Puerto Rico where Italy finished 12th out of 55 teams.
De Souza’s partnership with Weston-Webb comes at a defining moment in her career. Weston-Webb finished third on the Championship Tour in 2024 and earned the silver medal at the 2024 Olympics in Tahiti. She’ll be looking to tap into de Souza’s world champ prestige to finally crack the top spot at the finals in Fiji after several near misses.
