“Style” is a hard thing to define. Rob Machado has it. Gerry Lopez has it. Miki Dora had it. Ryan Burch, Kassia Meador, Leah Dawson, Stephanie Gilmore, and Dave Rastovich are all super stylish surfers. And Asher Pacey is most definitely on that list. But what, exactly, is it?
It’s more than a slightly tweaked back knee or the gentle twist of an outstretched arm; more than just a soul arch with hands clasped delicately behind the back. It’s more than a casual high line on a long, glassy, running point break and more than a flick of the tail off the lip. It’s all that put together; all that put together with something else. You can’t really describe style, but you know it when you see it. And we see it in Asher Pacey’s section for Logan Dulien’s up-coming film, Snapt4. We see it in spades. The clip above, which was filmed in Morocco on three different Album surfboards, consists of a handful of throw-away clips. The best of them, as you’ve likely guessed, have been put away for the film, which is set to be released this summer.
