Blair Conklin is very good at riding things on top of waves. Whether it’s a skimboard (three-time United Skim Tour Champion), a surfboard, or whatever else, and whether it’s at a beach, a wave pool, or a river, he can slide around with the best of them. Skimboarding is what really floats his boat, though, so when he saw a hurricane swell tracking towards Solmar Beach in Los Cabos, Conklin knew he should be there to meet it. Since he was already in the area, it was just a matter of extending his trip.
“This beach is the most dangerous beach in Mexico due to its very powerful shorebreak waves that are in close proximity to very crowded resorts,” the Skid Kids wrote on YouTube. “This beach is not friendly to people who are not good swimmers and this video will show you exactly why.”
What you see here is a mashup of footage from before and after Solmar was hit by the hurricane swell. “Pretty amazing to see how much sand gets taken away in just a matter of a few days,” Conklin said. “Whether you are a local resident checking the surf or someone interested in the impact of storms on coastal areas, this video provides a clear look at the beach environment.”
